2018 Ford Taurus SE

Post by PeterNC » Wed Jan 02, 2019 12:51 pm

Although there are more than 1100 2018 Ford Taurus SE's available nationwide with many >= 250 days on dealer lots they do not appear very motivated to sell. No surprise of course. Unless you are willing to come in and spend hours and hours haggling they are not interested.

I wonder if they'll have any damage (ex brake scoring, flat tires) from sitting so long?

When I bought my 2016 Ford Taurus SE it had been sitting on a lot close to a year. Had some significant repairs shortly after delivery. No idea whether that is typical.

9 out of 10 ten times when I request the best out the door price I never hear back from the internet sales team. Very weird. No motivation to actually sell me a vehicle.

I've heard if you want less haggling / hassle contact the fleet sales manager directly. Tell them you're a cash buyer, want a straight up price and you're shopping around. You don't even need to set foot in the dealer until the deal is basically done that way.

I truly think the future of car buying is the way Tesla does it. The same set pricing for everyone, you can buy online and have it delivered to your door if you want. Cuts out all the BS that the dealer provides.
2000 Ford Taurus SEL (excellent car, sold to a friend)

Yep. Will try that. But will need to wait for a few weeks now. All the rebates lapsed yesterday and the only rebates available now are really poor. Experienced more of the same today with no responses and very high asking prices (inflated dealer fees).

A few weeks after I took delivery of my 2016 Ford Taurus SE FWD the exhaust system was replaced.

Rebates are back but only $6K: they were at $7K around the Holidays.

Avalon’s have become insanely expensive BTW.

There are some real attractively priced LaCrosse’s on the market locally.

Avalon's don't have a built-in engine self-destruct feature though (water pump leaking internally)

True! :)

My 2010 Avalon however did have a water pump failure and it cooked the head gasket (due to malpractice by AAA approved repair shop).

Will check 2018 Taurus prices again in April. 150K miles / 8 year ESP is $3K. May just go with that and drive the 2016 Taurus SE until 2025.
