Stock Center Console Question

Post by 9C3 » Tue Jul 10, 2018 4:43 pm

Hello everyone. The 2013 PI, I’ve located has the factory center console, however the PD that this vehicle was used by installed a radio in one of the center compartments. Once the vehicle was sold privately, a pleather cover was placed over the void where the compartment was originally located. My question is, would this be able to be replaced to the original as delivered appearance? Is this something a dealer can easily replace? I’ve included a photo of the modification made. Thanks

That is not a modification, that is how they come from the factory. Mine is the same.

No, it’s a modification. You can’t depress the area down which would open a compartment. This is vinyl which is placed over that area.

Yes I agree, it's a blanking plate that you cannot depress to open a compartment. Trust me, they are like this from the factory.

You can get the 2 compartments. One is for the gear and the other one is like a cup holder with rubberfitting inside. They will fit easily

Perhaps the blanking plate is to cover up where the auto transmission selector is on the civilian Taurus?

I’m pretty sure you can upgrade that piece and swap it out with a shifter panel along with the storage compartment from a newer civilian Taurus. You can see pics in one of my posts from the install of a civilian console into my PI that I just did. Just delete the shifter like I did. An iPhone will fit in that slot perfectly.

Personally, I prefer the factory option. I’m just curious if the factory is made of a plastic material like the rest of the console, or is it more of a “soft” vinyl which is on the PI I found.

It’s hard to tell from kamloops picture if it’s the same as yours. You should just open the center console lid, pop off the right and left panels (the panels where the key and trunk release buttons are) and remove that piece. If it’s an aftermarket fix you should be able to tell once you have it apart. If someone wrapped it, you should see messy folds and maybe some excess glue which will give you a better idea if it’s factory or not.

Actually after zooming in on his pic I see it better. IMO, it looks like someone wrapped the piece in vinyl probably to freshen it up as it might have been scuffed up. It doesn’t look bad though.

I wonder has anyone converted it to use the "stock" pi center console part?

Folks:

The installer did a slick job on the OP's car by installing the radio like that. It's actually very clever and makes good use of an other wise empty area underneath. I wonder if that's what Ford intended with that on 2nd thought.

The OPs picture is that metal piece covered in some fabric. To the poster: The metal piece is available through Ford if you want a new one. I just ordered one not too long ago, as I installed a center console into my PI Taurus, but used the plate on the civi console to make it "correct" for the car. Be aware it is a special order part, so it will take several weeks for it to come in.

I ordered mine through Tasca Ford Parts.

So that part found on Ford is the factory part that is intended for that area?

What's the part number for the piece below the radio face with the dual 12v outputs? Can't find where to get this anywhere. Appreciate any info!
