How do you remove front seat belt from pilar buckle on 15 Taurus?

Post by Soda_can_dan » Sun May 20, 2018 10:59 am

Does anyone know how to remove the seat belt from the buckle that’s mounted on the two from Pilar’s? I’m trying to remove the lower plastic panel on both front sides. The seat belt is buckled in to the receiver that’s mounted under the panel and the belt goes through it.

Yea - now I remember. The PI has the explosive restraint mechanism at the pillar while the civi's have it over on the console/buckle side. I had to do some modifications to the pillar so I don't have an exact/experienced answer for you.

While I'm sure that buckle can be unclasped *somehow*, couldn't you just pop the plastic trim, lift it up and then unbolt the anchor under the plastic trim and feed it through the hole? It should be a large size Torx.

Under that panel the seatbelt is bolted to the car with a round metal bar that will not feed through the hole in the panel. Personally, I only see two options. #1 - unbuckle it from that area, or #2 - cut the belt. Obviously I don’t want to cut the belt from my car, nor the donor civilian Taurus. I’m stumped here....

.......since nobody is chiming in with a real answer........

are there slots on the side of that buckle? could be you need to release it that way. i remember diying a tool for the belt release, but i thought it was on the console side. heres the link to the tool to give you a visual

After not being able to figure it out I eventually just popped off that panel around the buckle. You have to remove a clasp and a pin on each side in order to remove the buckle and remove the side plastic panel for replacement. When new panel is in you need to replace the clasp and pin. Make sure you take a picture of the buckle set up before you remove the clasp and pin, this way you have a reference to put it back together correctly. Also the plastic panel around the buckle is very delicate, so be careful when seperating it. What a PITA!
