2016 Taurus fuel additives

Post by blackdragon » Wed May 17, 2017 7:35 pm

Would it cause damage to my 2016 SEL to put "STP Octane Booster" into my tank? I generally fill up with E 10, 87 to 93 depending on how cheap I'm feeling. Sometimes I can find real gas without any ethanol usually 91. I understand that low octane fuels can cause engine knock and too high has it's own set of problems. I'm also understanding that the cpu in these new cars can adjust in real time. HOWEVER, I'm unsure what kinds of fuel additives are ok for these new half computer tauruses.

thanks

Black dragon - additives aren't recommended. I believe this new cap-less filler port won't even accept the bottle because it won't have a long enough neck. The additive would end up on the ground. A good idea is to occasionally clean your throttle body/choke plate with throttle body cleaner and your mass air flower sensor with MAF spray (don't use anything else in that or it'll destroy the sensitive sensor filament). That'll keep her purring.

You don't need any fuel additives, for a long time. Octane booster is a waste of money for your vehicle. Buy the 87 octane gas, if you hear knocking, you really shouldn't ever, but if you do, then go up a grade. If you have normal driving habits, 93 octane is a complete waste of money.

The car's system is probably more than half computer
