who has highest mileage?

Post by markfnc1 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 11:58 am

My 2013 SEL has 95,000.

Water Pump $2200
Front struts $880
Rear Brakes $ 200

A lot more issues, and more expensive issues than my 07 Explorer, and 05 Freestar.

I'm assuming you changed your water pump proactively, markfnc1? With the horror stories, I may do the same before 80k.. I put 104k on my 2012; no issues except rear brakes (calipers sticking). Just had the same problem with my 2013 at 25k miles. My dealership took great care of me and replaced the calipers/rotors/pads. You would think with all the rear caliper issues, we'd have enough to petition Ford to TSB or better yet, safety recall them. Nothing fun about unintentional braking on the highway.. did this problem get fixed on later models? A friend bought a '16 and the rear calipers and rotor size look the same to me...

To be honest...not much...I have used Mobil 1 motor oil since day one, so I would highly recommend that. I have used the trans "drain/refill" approach twice...make sure the correct fluid is used for your trans (mine is an Aisin 6 speed). That's about it.

If you would like a list of everything I have had to fix, I could probably supply...everything will be from memory though.

Things I have fixed/replaced...front right halfshaft, on my third alternator, windshield, AC compressor/recharge ($1600), melted front right headlight pigtail, struts replaced once, shifter interlock, on my third serp belt, on my third set of spark plugs, recently replaced coil packs ($31 from ebay), replaced EGR once, replaced throttle pedal assembly and throttle body (one of these items caused the car to go into limp mode every once in a while...I suspect the TB throttle position sensor, replaced bulb in headlight knob, need to replace a bulb in my gauge cluster now...

Thanks for the list! I've been using full synthetic Valvoline every 3 -4 k, have had rear brakes replaced, and had some hiccups with the MFT/Sync. Otherwise, had good run with the Taurus. So you haven't had rear caliper issues? Maybe 2005 is a different design than 2010 - 2013?

You do you the Duratec 35, right? Are you planning a water pump change soon? If not, and you plan to keep driving this bad boy, I would consider it.

I haven't had any brake issues (I replace pads every 50k or so myself)...I always clean/lube the sliders. My car has the 3.0 Duratec with external water pump (connected to cam). No problems at all with the pump now. At one point, it started to whistle when cold, but hasn't made a peep in several years.

I was 1 block from my repair guy when temp gauge spiked. I went there. He couldn't fixed had it taken to Ford Dealer.

My rusty but trusty 2005 Taurus has more than 360k on it. Will pass 400k by the end of this school year.

2014 Taurus SEL 120,000 miles... I purchased the car brand new. haven't had to do too much to it since I've had it.... basically just normal maintenance, new tires, oil changes, brakes, fluid change. I have had a rear tie rod end go bad and ruin my rear tires so I had to replace that. I have a sway bar end link bad that we are replacing currently. But other than that, I have had very good luck with my car and its been a really good car. Replaced windshield due to rock chipping it and it spidered almost immediately. I do get some quirky electrical issues sometimes, like I'll turn car off, take keys out of car, shut door and radio comes back on (only done that twice in almost 6 years). Have got in car and radio won't come on. Have to shut car off and turn it back on and then it came on (a one time thing). The other day I hit button to shut the heat/ac off in the car. It shut off and a couple minutes later it came back on by itself. I turned it off again. It came back on. I did it again and it finally stayed off. I don't know why the car does these things randomly but every now and then it does some weird stuff. People have teased me that my car is possessed. lol I have taken it to dealer but unless it is doing one of these things when I bring it to them, they said there is nothing they can do because they can't see what's causing issue. Said its probably just a electrical/technology glitch.
