DIY replace rear shocks? 2011 Taurus

Postby Cherry Red 2011 » Tue Feb 14, 2017 12:39 pm

Took my car for an oil change and was given a list of needed repairs one of which was a leaking rear shock. I thought the price of over $400.00 to replace two shocks was a bit high, especially since I can buy the shocks for just over $100.00 a pair. My question is, is this a DIY job I can manage in my garage without a lift? I am mechanically inclined having built street rods and replaced shocks RWD GM cars in the past. I can't find a single diagram or YouTube video on replacing these shocks on a 2011. I haven't crawled underneath yet to see how they are mounted.

You should be able to do the job however i believe they are struts so I would buy a complete assembly. Then you will need to have the car aligned.
