Do you have a second set of keys? If you do, you should try them out and see what happens. Also any chance the battery went bad?

That is the Security system icon. Try the other set of keys but beyond that either Security system activation or like the original reply Dead Battery.

I don't know what happened to this car. But is very hard to find information about common problems with it. I only have one key and i was told that i need two of them if i want to try any type of reprogramming process. I check in every ford web site and they won't even show the keys. Also they told me it could be something else (not the key) but i look on the internet for any type of troubleshooting and i can't find any. I would like to buy the key keys from a original ford web site but they don't seem to sell them.

Take the car to the dealer. It could be any number of issues with the PATS system. You are taking guesses. The dealer is equipped to take care of this. I don't like dealer visits either but sometimes you waste more time trying to troubleshoot issues that are beyond your means rather than just biting the bullet and taking it to the dealer.

There, fortunately, are not too many "Common Problems" on these models. The biggest one was peeling chrome on the 10-12 models.

When PATS triggers and inhibits start, a code is set in the appropriate modules. You cannot pull these codes with your own regular OBD-II reader, but could if you used an application like FORScan with the right hardware. If you go to the dealer, they can use their scan tool to query the PCM for why the start attempt failed.

What you read is correct, you need two keys to do your own programming. Otherwise, you need dealer tools (or advanced tools from a locksmith) to enter programming to blank the existing keys and add in two new ones.

On my 2014, I had one flukey day where the car briefly flashed a PATS error, but then started. It left a code in the PCM for "missing message," meaning that it didn't get a response back from the key as to its identifying information. Started almost immediately otherwise, though, and never came back.

Certainly not a no crank/no start situation like yours.

Please keep us posted. It is exceedingly rare that PATS or a key fail, but possible. On other models, sometimes a bad ground hinders voltage from reaching the modules that need to power up at start, preventing start.

Does your odometer show a bunch of -------- instead of numbers?

Spare keys can be purchased from your dealership and programmed to your vehicle, marcos9397. Since you only have one key, you must take your vehicle to your dealership to have them program it. You should make an appointment with them to address your current concerns. Let me know what they say.

Well Thank you for your response. Before i read your message i run to an auto zone an rent a scanner. that did not work and i know the reason now. i down load the program yo subject and i order the scan adapter for the car. know i have read almost every blog comment and discussion about these taurus. no body seems to have the same issue with the car. now, i learned that can be the pcm that is malfunctioning for some reason. but i have looked every where in side the engine compartment and i can't find the pcm. can somebody tell where is located i the 2010 ford taurus model. i seen a lot of pictures for oldest models but no 2010 or no taurus.

it should be behind the kick panel on the passenger side Before you spend the money on a PCM I would just take it in to Ford and have them take a look. PCM's aren't cheap and you have to get one that goes with the car. You just cant get one from Ebay and slap in in. Thats not how it works. You have to have it installed at the dealer.

I had the same problem with my 2008 Sable. Called AAA for a tow and my wife for a ride home. Tried her key and BINGO - problem solved. It's too bad you only have the one key, as you could buy blanks on ebay and program them yourself if you had 2 working keys. BTW about a week or two later, I tried my original key and it now works. I'm not sure if they go bad, or lose their memory etc. or what. Good luck.

I too am having an issue where my car wont start. I go to push the brake hit the push start and nothing. The gages move like its started but there is no crank no nothing. I feel its not the battery possibly the starter, but I would disconnect the positive on the battery and USUALLY it starts up. This time this morning I had to leave my car in a parkinglot. Anyone know what the issue could be. I tried BOTH keys and same result. Please help.
