My name is Steven, and last month I got a 2012 Taurus SE with remote start.
My previous car stayed on after I used the remote start and went in to drive away.
The Taurus annoyed me and my wife with how it turned off after opening a door.
My wife challenged me to fix this. So, I did a Google search and found a post on another forum that explained the procedure.
The below procedure is NOT originally from me. I took one provided my user “mbyers” on the other site and modified it to how I saw fit for my application.
NOTES:
This procedure is for the SE model with the FORD Power Code Remote Start dealer installed option with “MyKey”
I cannot guarantee that the Models with the Push-Button start will get the same results. My guess is that it should.
Be SURE ALL keys are set as ADMIN BEFORE proceeding! There is a possibility that any keys that are limited by MyKey will NOT work after this procedure.
A:
Remove the kick panel below the steering column

B:
Locate the remote start module

C:
Locate the programming status LED and programming override switch.
The remote override button is 'easy' to find. It is taped to a harness, kind of right under the steering column. The remote module is tie wrapped above the kick panel (black box). The LED is tapped to the same harness and is about 1 inch from that button (between the button and the remote start module).

D:
Pull out the override switch so it is easier to press while sitting in the seat.

E:
Perform programming to disable “MyKey” functionality.
1. Sit in the car with the door closed (has to be closed to enter programming mode).
2. Press and hold brake pedal (keep it pressed).
3. Turn ignition key to run (one position from start which lights up all the gauges).
4. Reach under the dash and press and hold the override button for about 10 seconds until horn beeps 3 times.
5. After the three horn beeps, release the override button.
6. Release brake pedal.
7. Open the door and now get your head under the dash (so you can see the LED light up; it won't be lit yet, but once it is, it will be obvious).
8. Press and release override button (horn beeps 4 times, indicating bank 1).
9. Press and release override button (horn beeps 5 times, indicating bank 2).
10. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 1 time, indicating option 1). LED ON
11. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 2 times, option 2). LED ON
12. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 3 times, option 3). LED OFF
13. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 4 times, option 4). LED ON
14. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 5 times, option 5). LED OFF
15. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 6 times, option 6). LED ON
16. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 7 times, option 7). LED ON (this is the one you need to change.)
17. QUICKLY Press and release the button on the remote start fob; the LED will go off.
18. Press brake with hand (horn beeps 8 times, option

19. Get out and turn ignition key to off and take the key out.
20. Close door and remote start your car.
F:
Verify Performance
You should be able to unlock and open the door with the car staying on.
Place the key into ignition and turn to “ON”
You can now operate the vehicle
NOTES:
If you turn the key to “START” the radio and climate control will turn off then back on, engine will stay on.
If you do not shift out of park, the car will stay on after you take the key out.
I have NO idea how this will work with Push-Button start models.
