2014 Taurus Climate Control malfunction

Post by SouthGaTaurus » Tue Sep 27, 2016 5:52 am

My 2014 Taurus Limited is experiencing a climate control issue. Randomly, the climate control will shut off. Press the power on on the touch screen and it will restart. Sometimes it will stay on for awhile, sometimes it will shut off right away. Carried it to the dealer and they replaced the HVAC control head ($500+ parts/labor) and said that if that didnt correct the issue, they would have to replace the touch screen ($1000 part that is on back order). Well the issue seemed to be corrected for a few weeks but it is started doing it again. Has anyone else seen the same problem? If so, what was the fix? I hate to keep spending the money (car is a a few 1000 miles out of warranty) while Ford keeps throwing parts at the issue and doesnt seem to have a clue as to what is causing it.

When they tell you if this doesn't fix the problem it may be something else than you need to ask them if they can apply the 500 towards the new touch screen. Does your car have manual controls? if so why are you not using therm. I find the touch screen a pain in the a$# to use in my 15 F250 for the seat controls.

I just had the HVAC "module" replaced in my '13 Taurus because on max AC the air was blowing 60F instead of 40ish, and my seat warmers weren't warming much if at all. We'll, it seemed to work for a few weeks, now I take it back in tomorrow morning for the same issues...

I have a 2014 SHO and I am having the same issues as you describe SouthGaTaurus, but I haven't taken my to the dealer yet. When it shuts off, it will always (so far) turn back on using the touch panel. I don't want to take it in to the dealer until it is really 'broken'. Have you learned any more since your post?

Has anyone heard of similar issues or experienced this issue?

This issue only happens to me occasionally, from once or twice to several times a day. FYI - My car has about 56,000 miles.

I am trying to figure out if this is a low occurrence (rare) or more pervasive (frequent) on the 2013 and newer Taurus.

Any information is appreciated.

Here's the answer: 12M02 Warranty Extension for the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM): http://ford.oemdtc.com/1745/12m02-warra ... rd-lincoln

NOTE this language below. My dealer first put in a HVAC module (aka "head"), then updated APIM software and I was still having issues. The dealership then replaced my APIM. NO PROBLEMS SINCE! Free of charge...

"If there is a software download issue or the vehicle’s SYNC with MyFord/MyLincoln Touch® is unresponsive, and the APIM diagnostic pinpoint test indicates that the APIM requires replacement, dealers are authorized to claim APIM replacement without contacting the Special Service Support Center.

These repairs are to be performed under this program at no charge to the vehicle owner."

Here is an update on my climate control system malfunction, I told the dealer about my issues and they determined my Sync needed to be reset. They reset the Sync, there is no change and now I have to re-pair my phone.

Toduncom - lay it down to your dealer. Ask them to do the pinpoint testing and determine exactly what's wrong. After 2 HVAC modules, and the APIM, I'm finally as good as new. My gut tells me to push for the APIM testing. Do you ever experience issues taking or receiving calls, symbols instead of your song or artist? If so....APIM. The above warranty extension is the ticket. I'm fortunate to have an excellent dealer (AutoNation). Sounds like your dealer doesn't want to take you seriously. Step it up, and good luck.

Thanks smitty79 for the additional info. My dealer updated my Sync to the latest version, but it didn't have any affect on my problem. I don't have issues with calls or song or artist, just the HVAC. It seems to turn the climate control system off after running for about 5 or 10 minutes and then it is usually good for the rest of my 50 minute drive. Occasionally it will turn off repeatedly several times in a row and then run fine for an hour. This doesn't happen very often, but is tiresome when it does.

Ask your dealer to do the "pinpoint test". You have a bad module by the sound of it.

I will ask my dealer to run the 'pinpoint test', thanks again smitty79. I will post the results when I know more.

I am having exactly the same issue on my 14 Limited. The heater shuts off and I can only turn it back on using the control panel. Totally random. I brought it to the dealer and they said it was all up to date. I may talk to them and have them make sure that they checked the firmware and not just the sync system. Following your thread and any information is greatly appreciated.

Same issue with mine, just started at 57,000 miles. I know there’s a recall for an “ACM” or “Accessory Protocol” something. I am going to contact Ford about that recall to see if there’s something I can do. I knew about this recall by going to Ford’s syncmyride.com. Any more updates are appreciated
