Ford 500 dies in reverse

Post by rbennin » Mon Oct 16, 2017 1:34 pm

2005 Ford 500 6 speed dies when it goes backward in reverse.
It works fine forward.
It does not die in park, neutral, or drive.
It will run in reverse as long as the car does not move.
When the shifter is in reverse position it will die almost as soon as it starts rolling.
It will do the same if on an incline positioned backwards in neutral and rolls slightly backwards.
If I very carefully inch the car backwards until it dies then it won't restart at all until it is moved slightly off that position.
No codes of any kind.
I think it is related to some sensor in the transmission but am looking for suggestions.

That's exactly what it looks like. But it makes no sense to shut the engine off. I looked on here for any clue. They have a ton of diagrams for the 2005 Ford Five Hundred but I couldn't find a transmission sensor. Do you see anything on there? I clicked on transmission but it just brings me to non electrical parts.
