Rear Suspension Rattles????

Post by rjdut » Thu Dec 08, 2005 9:21 pm

Wife came home tonight with news we've developed a noise. :( When going over a bump seems to make a rattle in the rear. I had my wife drive and I folded down the rear seats and ended up in the trunk. Well since I'm 200lbs ( I hate to admit that) and the noise went away when I got back there, I can only think it's got to be suspension related.

Anyone else experience this?

I guess I'll have the dealer look at it when I bring it in for the gas tank straps.

Yep, since it got cold the wife's Montego sounds like the 1996 Taurus with 130K miles that we traded in.

Try this one, rjdut. I've had this "fixed" twice already, but Furd still hasn't come out with the proper fix. Come on Furd, get on the stick!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll be bringing it in next week for tank straps - I'll keep you posted.

Meanwhile if it stops snowing (8" & piling up :? ) I might get under there myself and take a look this weekend.

Who knows, you know how dealers get offended if anyone in a nice pair of dockers and a dress shirt make a suggestion about a noise as to what could be causing it........

No, but I wish it was at it would be an easy fix. It's more of a clunk in the rear, very loud, sounds like shock/struts on rear pass side. The squeak I mention is up front ,the techs say it is lower control arm bushings and a bad design.... If you read the rest of that thread I posted you see it's not just me with this crappy suspension........ you know what they say, "FORD, well atleast they circled the problem".

Sway bar links that ford put on are cheap. All 4 of mine broke, not hard to change. Hardest part is getting the old off, lots of liquid wrench (keep from getting spray on the rotors). They are about $20 a piece at o'reily, and even the cheapest one o'reily's sells is better quality then what ford put on.

I had a real bad clunk in my front end from one breaking off.
