New kid in town

Post by Jake_Blues » Tue Feb 05, 2019 12:05 am

So glad to have found your forum!

Just came into ownership of a new to me 2013 VSP AWD 3.5L sedan with 139k miles. In overall good condition - runs strong and no accidents according to Carfax. Got a fairly good deal on it from a used car dealer - hope to do some mods and "civilian-ize" it a bit over the next few months.

Planned mods/upgrades:
  • window tint
  • auto door lock enable with remote
  • enable auto engine start
  • remove spotlight + removable plug
  • paint roof / deck lids to match body
or
  • dip/wrap to a solid color
  • driving/fog lamps
  • civilian center console
  • front/rear civilian seats
  • possible to ac/heat vents for the rear?

thoughts? suggestions?

thanks!

I have not seen that radio. Not sure if it will work in the fpis. Looks like it’s for the civilian set up. I was only aware of the havis model for the interceptor which is $3600.
I’m very curious if this radio will fit.

When you get ready to remove the spotlight send me a message I would be interested in buying it from you.

you might get a better deal on ebay - unity has been making those spotlights forever. this one has a flaky on/off switch. i was going to remove and stow it for when i decide to sell the vehicle.

going to have a machinist make me an A-pillar plate with a shaft that I can thread a knob from the interior to secure the plate in place. if it looks decent enough i may have a few extras made and put them up for sale here first.

plan is to have the exterior of the plate painted the same color silver as the roof/decks when i get them painted to match the body.

I have that stereo in my 2013. There's a few posts on here regarding it. It works ok, but after living with it for a while, I think I'd go with a custom console with a head unit in it. There's just no firmware updates to be had, my car still says it's a frosty -86 degrees F when it's below 30 and then anywhere from 60 to 80 when it's above 30 outside... You can't program SWC, and I get random google serrvice crash messages from winca.com service (the unit's google play service). It's functional, but for $450 I expect more I guess. If you go with a civi console, you'll have zero fitment issues with the car navi unit. I had to do some trimming to retain my PI cover.

I have civilian console, your saying that radio will fit perfectly with the 12outlet piece in?

What's the check engine light for?

Also what are your engine hours? You may need to change the coolant pump soon

It threw the P0420 code a few days after I bought it. Coincidentally after an oil change and me adding Seafoam to the gas tank.

It's Bank 1 - with any luck it'll be the 02 sensor. with bad luck it'll be the cat - but I bought the car knowing something like that might crop up so I bought a 24mo/24k mile extended warranty ($100 ded). Unfortunately, none of these plans cover emissions - so I am most likely looking at anywhere between $200 - $700 depending on what needs to be replaced.

If/when the water pump goes, hopefully it's before the warranty expires.

Forget what the hours are - I'll have to check it in the AM.

can you post a pic of your install? i'd be interested to see it.

i found the same looking unit on this site - seems to be the same car navi unit, but the ADDITIONAL FEATURES tab seems to list features the one on the Car Navi page doesn't. Thoughts?

The 12v trim piece and IP cover are different between the police and civi consoles, so with the civilian setup, I think it will work just fine.

Mine is a model M276, only has Android 4.4. I'm jealous if they have an 8.0 version now!

You can read up on them at forums.roadnav.com. Mine is the S160 version. The new one appears to be S200 designation.

Engine Hrs - 6690
Idle Hours - 3962

Based on my back of the bar napkin maff - that's about 60% idle time. yeesh.

Based on Ford Fleet where 1 hr of idle = 33 miles, I am looking at 130,746 miles +the 140k miles already on the car.
http://www.hendonpub.com/resources/arti ... ls?id=3788

Anyway - considering the price I paid for it - still not a shabby deal because I have a 24mo/24k mile warranty with $100 ded for anything mechanical or electrical that goes.

Unfortunately that doesn't cover emissions which is what that dang P0420 CEL is for - most likely the O2 sensor pre-cat.

I'll probably have the 170k svc done early.
