First test ride

Post by choptop » Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:04 pm

I have been looking at the Taurus Police Interceptor for a while, took my first test ride today of a 2014 at a car dealer. All-wheel drive , 3.7, never put in service no holes inside or outside, 47,000 miles. Root beer Brown , Beautiful interior and carpeted, no sync, rear-view camera, or any of those little goodies.
Ford pretty nice, pretty much a fairly new car, but was not impressed by the power of the 3.7. They're asking 14-9 for it which I think is a couple thousand dollars High. Your input would be appreciative.

Depends what you want out of this car. If you want power, then the 3.5 Ecoboost provides that. You can find those with high mileage, prior police use, but for even lower than that price. If you’re picky and want something without prior police use, you’ll have a hard time finding another one (regardless of motor) and will have to pay up. In terms of driving experience, the 3.7 or 3.5 NA doesn’t compare to the Ecoboost. It’s a totally different car. I own a Caprice with 355 HP, and that has power to knock you back in your seat. I actually was more impressed with the Ecoboost’s power.

NADA clean retail is $13,450. CPO adds $1125. Unless this thing looks completely brand new, I would say 10 or 11k at most. PI's have a much cheaper resale when compared to civilian models. Pricing a 2014 AWD SEL with the same mileage returns a clean retail of $15,075. CPO adds the same $1125.

Have actually looked at the Chevy PPV, although have not driven one yet, like the looks, but a little harder to find and even harder in nice condition and low miles. I like the idea of the one I just looked at, as far as no holes, has not been beat on but I would get tires of the 3.7 and more than I really want to pay but I have not dikered at all. But it looks like a well taken care of civilian car rather than a police car.

Not really sure if a police car would qualify for CPO, but neither here nor their, they had it marked for 15,900, now 14,900.00, of course not much room to move, per the salesperson :? . Will give my bank a call to get an idea what loan value and all that stuff is but I don't really think I would be happy w/the 3.7 but as far as a clean, no holes, more than likely never abused 5 year old police car, it is pretty nice.

There is actually a very nice 2012 9C3 Caprice on eBay now out of Pennsylvania. Bids are on it at 14.1k. Seller listed it for 14.9k and no one took it. A little surprised and disappointed it couldn’t get 15k in the condition that it’s in. Mine is similar in the sense of mileage, trim, and both have never seen police usage.

Anyone in Indianapolis ? Been talking to a dealer about a '13 PI, ecoboost ,that they just got in. Pulled a window sticker on it and has $5,100.00 in options over base. Notice that it has a 3.16 final drive ratio, same as the SHO w/PP. To bad it is 500 miles away, you can only tell so much by the pics.

Are you referring to a gray one with just over 70k miles on it? There’s one in Indianapolis area listed just under 8k.

I bought my 2014 PI in Tampa. Found it on Craigslist. Drove it back to PA. I used searchtempest.com, it will search all of the Craiglists out there and let you open all of those pages at once. Pretty cool.

I also get alerts from this page. https://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/aucti ... uc=2269276

There are a lot of sources out there. I looked for months. Ebay, Craigslist, then you have a few dealers out there like Chicagomotors, Asia motors, a place in NJ called statesurplus.com http://www.statesurplusautosales.com/in ... ar/DESC/1/*/*

I think I had seen them all. First I'd look at the engine photo, if it wasn't an ecoboost, I'd move on to the next listing. 25 years ago, I'd fly out to Diversafleet in Kansas City, KS, and they would have 100s of cars. Kind of funny to fly there and see Philadelphia cars, the owners asked me what the hell the roads were like here, all the cars had suspension issues. Good luck finding a ride. I spent 3 months looking.

I like his facebook page and videos. I was looking to buy from him but he didn't have what I was looking for at the time, twin turbo in black. The blue color is awesome, my second choice.

He had an incredible Ecoboost last spring. Listed it for $14.5k, had everything (interior upgrade, back up cam & sensors, blind spot indicator, Sync) and only 46k miles. If only I lived closer to Oregon or seriously considered transporting it to me in NJ. I feel like that may be the one that got away.

I saw that car. It was nice. It would be a haul for me, I did the Philly to Tampa by plane, spent 4 hours in Tampa and then drove back to 30 degree weather in Philadelphia.. Some of those cars do have a lot of options for sure.

I’m considering selling mine for the right price. 2015 3.7 awd 37k full leather and civilian console, just put in a new sho suede steering wheel, dual led spots and Westin pushbar. Cars in excellent condition in side and out. 700 idle hours. 3500 miles in service. Pm me if interested.
