Which catalytic converter to replace for P0430 Code

Post by cyg » Tue Nov 13, 2018 2:19 pm

So after trying multiple times with varying degrees of success, only to have the code continue to come up intermittently, I have decided to replace the catalytic converter.

Does anyone know which catalytic converter to replace for a P0430 code?

"This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code, which means that it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. Although generic, the specific repair steps may vary depending on make/model. Basically this means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system."

You're in luck, as this is the easy one on the left side of the engine, on the radiator side.

I guess it isn't so bad.

Front side.
Why not try the spark plug method.
I "fixed" the P0430 by that method.
Google "P0420" with "spark plug" together

This is actually a continuation of this issue.

I have recent done a GDI Cleaning, and replaced the plugs and the O2 Sensor as well as using several treatments of Cataclean. It is an intermittent CEL code, but the combination of the mileage and idle hours on the car replacing the cat seems a logical next step.

Be sure to replace it with ideally a Ford OEM converter for best results. Second choice is a 50-state legal aftermarket one. If you go for the cheapest one it won’t last as long and you might be replacing it again in a year.
2000 Ford Taurus SEL (excellent car, sold to a friend)
1992 Mercury Sable GS (good car except for the tranny, sold)
Current: 03 F150 King Ranch SuperCrew

Initially I was going to go the cheap route as an OEM was more than three times the price as an aftermarket, but I am able to find an OEM for ~$420 vs the ~$240 aftermarket.

Before you replace the cats, you should try a cleaner. I had a P0420 and P0430 and they both disapeared after using seafoam and a Catalytic and Exhaust treatment additive.
