shocks and struts

Post by elastin » Sun Feb 26, 2012 12:40 pm

I have a 06 Ford 500. Has 117k miles on it. WHenever I take the car in for servicing, my mechanic is amazed that the shocks and struts are still good. However Ive begun to notice the ride if getting getting rough and its due for a change. Mechanic says its about $400-$500 per axel. So almost $1000 to get it done. This seems very high. Its a regular Goodyear shop. Any opinions on the price?

I would rather take the car to an authorized dealer. My ford dealer will do the job right the first time at the same shop cost as goodyear. Also my dealer will give some discounts where he can, while goodyear wont.If they finish early they wont charge the whole hour only half! check your local authorized dealer. And if you can find the part yourself it might be cheaper.

IMO I steer clear of the dealer once the car is out of warranty. The prices just aren't justified when a good mechanic will do the work for a lot less.
I suggest looking around for a reputable mechanic who doesn't charge a fortune.
