Looks more like a Fusion than a Taurus. I'm not impressed...

The Chinese market is so massive compared to the U.S. that success & appeal there is more important to Ford.

The U.S. version will probably look a little different anyway. I like that one though but I like the looks of the Fusion.

If I wanted a Fusion, I would buy one. I wanted a Taurus so I bought that. I too am not impressed, except maybe of the wheels.

I think it's a better looking Fusion, except for the awkward angles in the front end. The back end was well executed. Nothing about this looks... stunning... over our existing models, though.

My perception must be different. I don't see the Fusion at all. The rear end looks much better. All around visibility looks like it should be better too. I like it and would consider buying one if made available in the USA.

Personally, I'd love to see this here. But, if the current issue of Automotive News is to be believed, North American Taurus stays the same for 2016 and 2017, and then gets dropped from the line-up completely. Large sedan segment sales, for all automakers, has been dropping, with sales going to crossovers instead, and Ford is leaning toward dropping the Taurus altogether.

Has the Taurus comeback story come to an end?

Automotive News

August 17, 2015 - 12:01 am ET
DETROIT -- The Ford Taurus -- a once-revolutionary nameplate that Ford Motor Co. already killed once, until Alan Mulally arrived and gave it new life -- again has an uncertain future, at least on this side of the globe.

U.S. sales of the Taurus, like many large cars, are tanking, down 28 percent through July. Ford unveiled a redesigned Taurus in April but said it was designed only to be built and sold in China.

Could be fleet only. Could be dropped entirely. More than half off the Police Interceptors sold are Explorers, so it's anybody's guess at this point.

There is a 2018 Taurus. Go to the Ford site and you can view it and build and price one. So it's not meeting it's demise yet lol. But why would it ? Up here in New York all the local Police departments have them including the State Troopers. When I travel I see all of those police departments with them also. I loved my 2012 Taurus and just traded it in looking like brand new with 156K on it and didn't even have to put an alternator or anything in it. Just regular maintenance and changed the oil a lot. Hoping for the same with the new one !

Yes, there's a 2018 Taurus in North America. Probably the last civilian Taurus. Afterwards, like the Crown Victoria before it, plans are to relegate it to police fleet only with 2019 MY. With demand still high for the Explorer, a planned redesign for MY 2020, with a Lincoln variant planned for MY 2021, Ford needs the capacity at Chicago Assembly for something that sells better than Taurus.

Get used to the idea - there are zero plans to update the NA Taurus, there are zero plans to bring the Chinese Taurus to North America, and Taurus, like a lot of other large sedans, is a dean man walking.

And Explorer Police Utility outsold the Taurus Police Interceptor last year. Even with the bad publicity on the alleged carbon monoxide leaks.

Just heard on the news something about possible recall for the explorer and carbon monoxide poisoning. One PD has completely stopped using them. That might change the game a bit.

Won't affect civilian Taurus one iota. Sedan sales are down across all segments, across all brands. 2018 or 2019 are the very last year's for the civilian Taurus. That is the absolute last word to all the parts suppliers.

I hope they keep water pumps in stock lmao. What a shame though. When I was a mechanic in the 80's American cars would come out of the factory with bad transmissions and engines. Now it has reversed. Seems to be the foreign cars with all the dangerous safety recalls now. My 06 Montego and 2012 Taurus both went over 150K with no troubles and really no major parts going. The Taurus took NOTHING at all and the Montego only a water pump at 119K and an alternator at 119K. Where are you going to get that kind of reliability ? But wait then again you said they are still going to make the police versions so parts should still be pretty available. I love my Taurus. My wife had the 50K Lincoln MKZ with all the bells and whistles and I would get back in my Taurus and breathe a sigh of relief and say I'm home lol. felt like I was getting into a Limo.

I used to be a warranty/service parts manufacturer. I know what you mean. A bigger concern is everyone with a Limited or a SHO, with the Sony sound system. Taurus never got the push button HVAC controls that Explorer got in 2015. I'm willing to bet that National Parts in Livonia, MI will only keep 1500 of those controls in stock once Taurus is done. Those will be gone within five to 7 years after it's out if production and then you're only going to have third party rebuilders for that part. And those sensor touch controls don't last forever.
