gas smell, 2011 Escape

Post by [email protected] » Mon Jul 31, 2017 3:07 pm

My '11 Ford Escape started having this issue a few weeks ago. Immediately after shutting the car off, there is a strong immediate odor of unspent gasoline. Sometimes the odor is noticeable inside the cabin of the car, but always noticeable when you step outside from the driver's side. I can really smell it when I park in my garage. I have not noticed anything dripping from the underside either.

I raised the hood on several occasions in attempt to locate the source. Found nothing noticeable. The odor is not constant, rather it is more like a single blast that dissipates within a minute (when outdoors) after turning off the motor.

It's hard to say where the smell is coming from. Perhaps you have a leaking or damaged line or seal. Given the nature of the situation, I'd get it to a qualified mechanic for a look immediately. Towing it would be a good idea too.
