We've updated the our reliability stats for the Taurus (on our redesigned site) to include owner experiences through September 30, 2011.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 48, better than average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

2008: 64, < 1

Ford Taurus Lemon-odds and Nada-odds

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates later this month and in May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover the 2009 as well.

Just a technical correction here... The leading edge hood issue is not a corrosion issue as the hoods are aluminum. Rather it is an adherence issue of the paint to the aluminum hood. As I've been looking at used ones, it seems this issue happens primarily on the Dark Blue painted cars. This has happened in the past as I recall one year of Ford Trucks all peeling down to the primer in certain colors the paint did not properly adhere.

Great car until 120k miles. Can't keep coil packs and PCM's on it now (PCM is main computer) PCM burns out with the coils 2 out of 4 times. VERY EXPENSIVE. Already went through strut problem while under warranty Replaced twice, also strut housing replaced. Replaced both front wheel bearings. Rear brakes only last about 30-40k miles. Pads WAY too small for such a large, heavy car.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the Taurus now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2009 Taurus: 61, moderate, very small sample size
2008 Taurus: 49, low

Plus, the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 Taurus: 58, 2

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.
