Opinions on Lincoln MKZ...

Post by 2FAST4U » Thu Feb 26, 2009 5:30 pm

I'd like to get my girlfriend a nice car. Although there's nothing wrong with the one she has right now, I'd like to "spoil" her a little more for being such an exceptional person to me... I'd like her to have a not-too-large car, but loaded with all the "bells and whistles" you can ask for... I'm leaning towards a Lincoln MKZ ('07-'08)...What do you guys think?...Would it make a good daily driver for her? I think it's just the right size, looks great (she likes them), and I think it has a good reliability record, being based on the Ford Fusion...
Any opinions?...

Thanks,

Claude.

I think it's a great car. Haven't heard of anything going wrong with them. I like 'em. They're pretty snazzy. If I could afford one, I would have gotten one. Especially since the newer ones ('07-'09) have the 263hp 3.5. They move pretty good. Even with AWD they are pretty fast. Handle nicely and are very plush inside. If you've got the money, go for it.

Thanks "TBIMustang" for your reply...Yeah, I'd prefer to have the 3.5 engine. Even if the Zephyr ('06) is almost identical but sells for less, I'd still prefer an MKZ as I'm not sure which engine was in the Zephyr... :?: Of course, I would expect it to be quicker than my current '06 Five Hundred, which isn't really hard to beat!... :D
On another site, I saw some "spy" pictures of the upcoming '10 MKZ and I don't like the front end...too "massive", or rather "agressive" for me.
So for me idealy, an '07-'09 MKZ is the car to get...

Thanks,

Definitely a nice car. I know we are Ford owners but also, I'd say take a look at the Acura TL (07 / 08) Type S. I had one and have been a Ford guy a long time and to tell you the truth, I was thinking about an MKZ (which is just a dressed up Fusion) but then saw that they take a big hit (as most domestics do when it comes to resale). I then looked at the Acura TL Types S and loved the car - sporty and loaded with all the bells and whistles some of which put some Ford's I've owned to shame. Like... it shows you the tire pressure of each tire (on the display), the voice control navigation, bluetooth is amazing. It actually lets you dial by saying the numbers and doesn't screw up the numbers. Just check it out.. a pre-owned I'd say. Supposedly the new TL isn't catching on due to its styling is so ... uh... ugly from the front.

PS - the Acura is also made in Marysville Ohio as opposed to MKz (Mexico)

My 2 cents...

That's a lot of spaghetti for an MKZ. Then again, your gal sounds like a cook and a maid. Maybe she needs a van?

I did a little researching, and it appears that all Zephyrs ('06), have the 3.0 liter engine. The 3.5 began with the '07 model year (MKZ)...

I would get her a Zephyr. Same glitz. Cheaper.

"PCM", maybe you've missed what I said in my previous post?...I was saying that I don't want a Zephyr because it has the underpowered 3.0 liter engine. Even if I learned to live with the one in my Five Hundred, I would prefer to get the more powerful 3.5 liter engine in the MKZ.
By the way, the lack of power is the only complaint I have about my Five Hundred...not that it's bad...but it does happen once in a while that I wish it had more power...

An '06 Zephyr would be much cheaper and make more sense. That car is smaller and lighter than your 500 and should do fine enough with the 3.0. The '06 Zephyr hits 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and an '08 MKZ hits 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE!

"The sole engine option the '06 Zephyr was an all-aluminum 3.0 L DOHC Duratec V6 producing 221 hp (165 kW) at 6250 rpm and 205 lb·ft (278 N·m) of torque at 4800 rpm."

The 2010 MKZ (to be released in Spring '09 - NOW!) will be all new.

So, it appears that as the gf quality goes up, so must the level of the wheels. Then there are some really trashy ladies in my neighborhood . . .

I would agree with you - get the MKZ. The 3.5 is worth it. A neighbor has the MKZ with the 3.5, and her gas mileage is very close to my '05 Montego, and the acceleration with the MKZ is great.

For safety rating, 08 ford fusion is much better than 07 mkz. Some of 08 mkz with 5 stars crash test.

Well finally bought one (2010 MKZ) ! :D Dark green with light camel interior and chromed wheels. It has just about everything except "awd" and "gps". When compared to my '06 Five Hundred with a 3.0 L engine, the MKZ's 3.5L engine has a lot more pep! I'M having the windows tinted tomorrow... :o
