CVT Transmission Fluid

Post by elastin » Sun Oct 13, 2013 8:32 pm

I have a 06 Ford 500 with a CVT. I got it used. The trannie fluid was changed at 60k miles and flushed at 100k miles. I have close to 150k miles now. Should I have a simple drain and fill or should I have it flushed? I have heard that having the trannie fluid flushed at such high mileage could hurt the trannie.

I have a 2005 SEL AWD. I had the trans flushed and filled at 60 and 120k, since then only drained and filled every 60k. The car now has 225k and the CVT is working just fine...

Did you have the high pressure case filter changed when you changed the CVT transmission oil?

I have a 2007 Five Hundred and brought it in for its 120K service. The manual states that this filter is supposed to be changed however, the dealer recommended just a drain and refill and said changing the filter was not necessary. I am concerned that I may have problems with the CVT if I do not change the high pressure case filter.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I may be a little late, but I think that tranny has 2 filters. One is welded to the bottom of the inside of the case. It just needs to be cleaned. I would have insisted that the high pressure filter to have been replaced. But that's me. With this tranny even the Service Managers have different ideas. Ford corporate doesn't even know what to do. I have a feeling they want you in a new vehicle. I have a 2005 500 SE with 66K miles. Once a year I check the fluid colour to make sure it isn't dark. Hope that helps.
