I have been experiencing a lunging or quick acceleration when shifting from park to reverse or park to drive and have read several complaints and was wondering if you all had any information on this issue I called ford and they had no recall on it but I've seen way to many posts even on the NHTSA website and was wondering what to do any help would be greatly appreciated

Anybody else experienced this problem and what does it take to fix it and should ford have to cover the cost since its evidently a safety issue and a defective part as many instances as there have been

Try cleaning the butterfly valve in the throttle body. There is likely some carbon build up around the edges so the butterfly can't stay at a small gap, so it either closes mostly then opens up when the computer system detects low partial pressure of air so it opens it too wide resulting in lunging at parking lot speeds. Quite a few of us have had that issue and have started cleaning it every few oil changes.

The problem with the throttle body is in the plastic connector that mates the throttle body with the electronics. The plastic gets brittle over time and cracks which breaks the connection once the car has been driven 30 or 40 miles. The computer shuts down the fuel flow whic creates the deceleration to idle speed. The only solution is to replace the throttle body since the electronic connector is fused into the throttle body housing. It’s less than $150 USD to replace if you can find a used part online, and takes less than 10 minutes to do it yourself (youtube is your friend) Ford dealers charge $700 to $800 to do it. Whata ripoff for a faulty plastic part.
