Re: 2007 Taurus Lean Code Issue

What is the exact code? P0171 or P0174 I assume? https://www.obd-codes.com/p0174 - same for either bank. The problem with modifying a car is the car operates under different parameters than it was meant for. Oiled air filters have been known to be problematic to the MAF. The more you modify the more...

Old photo galleries gone

So it's finally happening... the old photo gallery script that we used for years was no longer supported or updated by the developers so I "hid" it a year or two ago. Now, server updates mean that the old photo gallery script can no longer function at all. The links to photos that were in the forum ...

Hmmm you're right. Check https://www.fordparts.com or https://www.tascaparts.com or similar then... put in your VIN to do the lookup.

I'm not sure just off-hand but definitely buy a new one. The Ford part will be of better quality than Dorman and the like. If I was you, I'd look up parts/year compatibility at RockAuto.

Re: 2006 500 SEL Ignition Coils

Ugh. On my 2000 Taurus I was able to loosen the intake without full removal to access the back. Same engine.

Can you reach the #1 coil since it's not the middle? Swap the coil with a front one.

Is cylinder #1 on the back side of the engine, making it hard to get at?

Re: 2006 500 SEL Ignition Coils

Your VIN should tell you which engine. But I believe there is only one 3.0L DOHC V6 engine that year.

Look it up at RockAuto.com and then add 20-80% to estimate what a local parts store would charge.

Re: 2006 500 SEL Ignition Coils

It's coil on plug, right? Swap the coil from #1 to #2, clear the codes. If the misfire moves to that cylinder then you know that coil is bad and you only need to replace it.

Only use Motorcraft parts for longevity. You do not need to replace all coils.

Thanks for the info, I haven't watched or heard of that guy, I'll check him out. Yeah unfortunately this is one of those issues where it won't crop up right away and if you don't catch it early enough (which is extremely difficult) it will be catastrophic.

Re: 2007 Ford Taurus Shudders

Did you look at the inside wheel edges for true-ness? CV joints don't get bent. I would check to see if you have an engine misfire. Scan for trouble codes even if the check engine light isn't on. Engine misfires can be similar to what you're describing, they feel like a trans shudder but they're not...

How do you know your tires need balancing? Start with the basics and don't put in that trans additive yet.

Re: 2007 Ford Taurus Shudders

A shudder could be caused by many things. An engine misfire, transmission problem, or drivetrain problem. Scan for trouble codes first. I wouldn't just put in shudder fix in the trans as a guess.

If I had to blindly guess I would say you have a bent wheel. How do you know your tires need balancing?

http://revbase.com/BBBMotor/ - the dealer can look up all TSBs that apply to your VIN in their own system.

Wow. Have you checked for TSBs? This is getting ridiculous.

I wonder if your converter is failing or underperforming? That's not officially a cause but it does make me wonder.

I would say scan for diagnostic codes first, and if possible use the same tool to watch live sensor readings to ensure proper fuel pressure, Idle Air Controller function, etc.

Re: 2009 taurus shifting problems

Welcome. Check the transmission fluid level and condition, that's the first step. Then, I would try to read the codes using a different code reader, possibly a more advanced scan tool. The low gas and tire pressure warnings shouldn't be related.
