Re: Suspension Noise

I buy 99% of my parts from www.rockauto.com. Their prices are usually very good. They can screw you on shipping costs sometimes though...beware of parts shipping from various locations with separate charges. When I don't buy from RockAuto, I use them to obtain part numbers and then buy from Amazon u...

Yes. The upper strut bearing plate can cause crunching too.

Re: Suspension Noise

About $25-$30 each for MOOG front end links and about the same for rear end links. I replaced my fronts with greasable MOOG units. Do a search for my user name and you will see numerous posts about end links/struts. I still need to replace my rear end links...i have a small rattle in the back. Also....

Re: Suspension Noise

For the front noise, try greasing the steering stops. For the rear noise, it sounds like you have bad sway bar end links. Also, check your rear spare tire...make sure that the center screw is tight...

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

Thanks for the response. From what I can tell, I really just have a pinhole sized hole in the boot. Of course, even a small hole allows all of the grease to sling out. Don't think the hole is big enough to let much dirt in though. I would like to fix the problem, as having grease everywhere really b...

Re: '05 Montego Rattling In Front End

Just replaced my front end links. My front right lower joint was very loose, and was causing my rattle. Problem is fixed now with new MOOG units with grease fittings.

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

Installed my new MOOG front right end link over the weekend. The bottom joint (that connects to the sway bar) on the stock front right end link was very, very easy to turn by hand. The top was not. The bottom joint was completely worn out. I noticed that I have a hole in my fron right cv boot (the i...

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

I received a response yesterday from Monroe about my query. They said that "tough econmoc times caused them to have only one part number for the rear struts." Unbelievable... Anyways, I haven't had any problems (clunks) since I installed all 4 Monroe struts. Ride is slightly more firm now, and the c...

Re: Oil and Oil filter preference

I will cross the 110k boundary today on my way home from work. I probably would be using Motorcraft oil if I could consistently find it in stores. I have had really good luck with Mobil1 oil in the past. It is expensive though, but I don't mind paying for it.

Re: Oil and Oil filter preference

I use Mobil1 5w20 when I can find it...Mobil1 5x30 otherwise. I prefer Motorcraft FL-820s to the Fram PH2.

Re: Front door speakers

I finally got around to replacing the rear speakers with a pair of Sony XS-GT5726A 5x7" 2-way speakers. They were $59.99 from Crutchfield. Sound quality was really improved. Does anyone know if my 2005 Ford 500 SE already has wires for rear deck speakers? Or are the rear deck wires only installed if...

I just installed a new front left Moog end link as well. Much more sturdy that the stocker and I like the grease fittings too.

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

I did have a few problems JJ...Firstly, the front struts wouldn't come out with top strut bearing attached. I guess my spring compressors couldn't compress enough or I wasn't able to grap a high enough coil. Anyways, I reattached the upper strut bearing and just removed the center nut after I had th...

Re: Front end rattle (2005 500 90,000 miles)

I too had the front end rattle. I just replaced all struts and the noise is gone. I have around 109k miles. Possible causes of front end rattle include bad strut, bad tie rod end, bad ball joint, bad sway bar end link, and bad upper strut bearing. I would replace the struts and see what happens. I w...

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

Not sure, but I thought it was a little odd when I ordered them. The car rides fine...no noises or weird behavior. I just think that the "vertical wall spring stop" has to be there for a reason (to keep the spring from rotating?). I'll let you know if they respond to my e-mail. I am gonna try to tac...

Re: What struts for 2005 Five Hundred

Ha! It is hard work JJ. I am 35 years old and was planning to go to the gym yesterday after installing the right rear strut. I didn't. Removal of those suspension bolts that have blue loctite on them are a pain. And the cranking on the spring compressor bolts are tiring. I did notice one thing with ...
