Re: who has highest mileage?

To be honest...not much...I have used Mobil 1 motor oil since day one, so I would highly recommend that. I have used the trans "drain/refill" approach twice...make sure the correct fluid is used for your trans (mine is an Aisin 6 speed). That's about it. If you would like a list of everything I have...

I use the same stuff on the sliders themselves and have had no problems.

I had the same problem. For me, it was the right halfshaft. I replaced it and have had no issues since.

Steve, glad to see a post from you back on the board. I have almost 279k on my 2005. Never had the problem you had (yet). Weird stuff.

Re: 2004 Taurus 3.0L No power, searching idle, squeaky

You said pedal feels rough during accel? Just wondering engine type. I don't think you have drive by wire on the throttle body. If you do, the pedal assembly/sensor may be shot. If you don't, cable must be binding or the throttle body is not moving smoothy.

Re: 2004 Taurus 3.0L No power, searching idle, squeaky

You said squeaky...does it sound like a bird chirp? If so, you may need a new synchronizer...basically, this is where the distributor used to be with a sensor on too. I assume the car is an ohv and not a dohc right?

Bad purge control valve or cracked hose or bad gas cap.

Stuck idle air control valve? Is it an OHV or a DOHC?

I was just able to see your pic above the bucket pic. I will have to look at the construction of the tip of my fuel pressure gauge. You probably have everything hooked up properly...looks like you know what you are doing...

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

I would think you would see 40psi when full 12 volts applied...not sure how you have the pressure gauge connected, but I think the center tip has to be depressed for you to get a reading. Did you just shove a hose over the gauge tip? If so, that won't work.

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

Last post...read http://www.diycardoctor.com/fuel_rail_pressure.htm and http://www.underhoodservice.com/under-pressure-maintaining-fords-electronic-returnless-fuel-system/ It appears to me that it is possible then for the pump to be completely off, completely off, or somewhere between. I would guess...

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

Check out url: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t576_ds653164 "The Focus does not have a fuel pressure regulator. It is a returnless system that uses the cycling of the fuel pump on and off to control fuel pressure. The "silver UFO thingie" is an accumulator to aid in smoothing the pulses of...

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

I was looking for more information for you. Couldn't really find anything specific to your 2001, but I found the following in the manual for a 2007 Ford Five Hundred with 3.0 Duratec: The vehicle:  uses an electronic returnless fuel system.  has a dual-container (saddle-type) fuel tank.  has a fu...

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

Sounds like you have been very methodical in your diagnosis. I am not sure what YS4Z-9J280-FA actually does, but it does appear to be related to fuel pressure. I don't see that part shown on RockAuto.

Re: Crank no start 2001 Mercury Sable 3.0L DOHC

From what I have been told, you have to cycle the key on and off several times to get a true fuel pressure reading. That being said, you should get a pressure reading, and the pressure should remain constant (should not drop down quickly). The only thing I see listed on RockAuto for your car is a fu...

Did you fix yet? My guess it the transmission range sensor...aka neutral safety switch. Try moving the shifter around next time this happens.
