Re: 2005 Ford 500 delayed start and no start

So this fuel filter was probably the original and about 4 years old? I once had a car stall in the middle of a busy freeway while on a date. Car was 3.5 years old, and had a complete tune-up or two in which the fuel filter was "checked". That's my benchmark and I now order the fuel filter replaced e...

Re: How long is your battery last?

My batteries seem to average 6.5 years. I don't think I've ever replaced one less than 4 years old. Is your car 23 months old or the battery? The battery could have been manufactured long before it was put in your car. I'm thinking these batteries that spend a year in a warehouse have short lives. I...

Re: How many Ford Five Hundred has been sold?

I think I've gotten this off of http://www.blueovalforums.com, I believe it's closer to 250,000 units sold. I once tried to figure out how many CFT30 CVT's exist in the world, couldn't find a breakout for the 500/Montego's with AWD, my best guesimate is there are 400,000 to 450,000 units on the road...

Re: New Five Hundred Limited owner with question about CVT Trans

The high pressure case filter comes in a kit with 5 o-rings and sells for about $120, some have had the fluid and filter changed for about $260, $400 is about the highest price I've heard paid. The maintenance schedule which indicates the fluid and filter should be changed at 60,000 miles can be fou...

Re: hey

Change the air filter, that may help with the mpg. I enjoyed a post from Cosmo Kramer on the Freestyle forum. He raced his wife in his Freestyle w/CVT vs. her Escape w/4 speed automatic. Both have the same 3.0 Liter engine, the Freestyle is much heavier. The Escape got the jump off the line, but the...

Re: Future of the CVT at Ford?

true, except they didn't use the cft30 model cvt. I'm pretty sure the cft30 was used only by Ford for 3 years in 3 models. I had trouble finding specs for Volvo that showed what drivetrains were mated to which engines, I'd guess in 2005 only their 4 cylinder engines had cvt? I felt someone comfortab...

Re: Future of the CVT at Ford?

I thought Audi used ZF to build chained transmissions for their CVT's? And aren't Nissan CVT's chains? Or did all those come after the CFT30? Could be Audi used ZF, I know Volvo experimented with CVT's and used ZF. They make all kinds of drivetrains for all kinds of vehicles. I believe Nissan and M...

Re: Future of the CVT at Ford?

I think the CVT will always be in hybrid vehicles as they have extremely small engine displacement to weight ratio, the Hybrid Escape has a CVT. The particular CVT Ford used in the 500/Freestyle/Montego (CFT30) is not being put in any new vehicles, this model of CVT is significantly different from w...

Re: Wet driver's side floor board

Do you happen to park outside frequently under a pine tree? I once had a problem in a Caravan with needles clogging the drains in the gutter at the base of the windshield (need to open your hood to examine). Wound up flooding the dashboard, I could actually hear water swashing back and fourth at tim...
