Re: 4 relays have intermittent problems... AC, Fuel pump, cooling fans, pcm

The immediate suspect would be loose wiring harnesses for all four relays; if the underhood fuse box had issues, it's likely that more than just these four systems would be affected. Have your mechanic double check the relay connections; they're probably loose enough that a jolt breaks contact.

Re: Replacing AC Compressor

If you end up having to replace the compressor, or any other part for that matter, try to look up the OEM part number; Motorcraft - and everyone else - assigned part numbers to everything, and if it matches the OEM part, it should say "replaces Motorcraft part #", followed by the actual number. Anyt...

Re: Cannot re-program old keys on new ECU

Couldn't you tow it to the dealer and pay them for less than $1200? Personally I don't mess with that stuff, it's not worth the risk. You might want to look into ForSCAN to see if it will do what you want. $1200!? At that price, it'd be cheaper to have new keys made than reprogram the chips in your...

Re: Where does this wire connect?

It may be power to the starter relay; if the wire was frayed before you replaced the hose, it may simply have snapped when/if you pushed on it.

Re: Trunk Opens/key in ignition

As I see it, unless or until you solve the problem, you have two choices: 1) Pull the fuse for the power door locks. Should be #22 in the passenger compartment fusebox; that one also happens to control the trunk release solenoid. 2) Disconnect the wiring from the trunk release solenoid itself. Unlik...

Re: Crank, no start on incline (hill)

Park the car on a completely flat surface, smooth as you can find, no incline and no cracks or bumbs. Jack up the front end of the car until it's at the same angle as the hill, then try starting it up. If it starts, great; if it doesn't, try doing the same thing, only mimicking downhill by jacking u...

Re: 2006 Montego HVAC

I had that happen once; we used to have an '89 Plymouth Sundance, and when the actuator for the blend air door went out, it got stuck in the defrost position. Never did fix it; the radiator started leaking, it repeatedly ran out of coolant, and the engine block cracked. A replacement engine - in thi...

Re: Oil Pressure Low

"Oil pressure ok"? That's useless information, friends. You need to confirm where that pressure is; according to the Haynes manual, it should read 40-60 psi at 2500 RPM after the engine reaches operating temperature. Unless you can get exact pressure figures, you won't get accurate enough readings t...

Re: 2002 Ford Taurus Heater Problems

The Vulcan engine is known to have water pump issues. "Known" by whom? When the water pump on my 2000 FFV Taurus died back in late Febuary during that cold snap in central Ohio, mine was already at 140K+ miles. Seems like a long time for a "failure prone" part to work before something goes wrong wi...

Re: Alternator Question

It might be internal, it might not. There are two types of alternators used on the fourth-gen Taurus/Sable. One has an external regulator, the other one an internal one. Unfortunately, you'll have to take the alternator off the car to do anything with either one.

Re: Alternator Question

I agree it shouldn't drop more than a few millivolts down the wire, but if the battery's been allowed to discharge, it won't read the same as the alternator until it bumps back up; the cable might, but the battery itself won't. Not to mention, no part of the system should be reading 18.2 volts at al...

Re: Alternator Question

Is the battery charging while you drive? If so, there's nothing wrong with the wiring. The "low voltage" warning light - the little red battery light on the dashboard - will come on once the voltage drops too low; the starter needs at least 9.6 volts to operate. Until it comes on, just check it ever...

Not directly, no. Fuse #37 is for the Transmission Position Switch, and #38 is the GEM Park/Neutral Switch.

Re: Tachometer sticking

The tachometer receives a signal from the powertrain control module, or PCM, and unless I'm mistaken, the PCM receives RPM signals from the crankshaft position sensor. The crankshaft position sensor, or CKP, is mounted on the engine front cover, connected to the crankshaft via a wheel with 35 little...

Re: Low fuel light - 2002 Taurus

The easiest thing to do is to not let the tank get near empty. I try not to let mine get below a quarter tank, but when I first bought my 2000 FFV Taurus, the little Flex Fuel-only module behind the radio didn't work, and since it allowed the gauge to read accurately whether the tank has gas or E-85...

Re: 2000 Taurus leaking oil

Bill, if you haven't stopped driving it already, do so NOW. If the hose from the gas tank to the vapor canister has been disconnected, or it broke, it means raw gas fumes are leaking into the atmosphere; that's what it collects, and then when the canister pressurizes to a certain level, a valve open...

Re: Power windows , locks

First point of failure for ANY electrical part in a door is the wiring. I'd check to see if you can find any breaks between the door and the body; the switch could be bad for the window, but only the wiring would make both lock and window not work.
