Re: Malfunctioning Instrument Cluster

I filled up with gas this past weekend, and as I left the gas station, the airbag light stayed on. And then the seatbelt light/chime kept going off/blinking at me like I had forgotten to buckle up (but I was belted in). Drove all the way home like that with the light and chime going off every 30 sec...

Re: Interior lighting...

The door switches for the windows are supposed to light up as are the steering wheel mounted controls. The headlight switch, oddly, is not illuminated at night. I would venture to guess that the bulb or LED for the illuminated switches is built in and you would have to replace the entire switch.

Re: Oil Change at Dealer

kb9 -- thanks. The ATF was changed at ~37K and again at ~78K. The first time was free, thanks to the warranty, since I reported rough shifting before 36K miles. At first, they said they would replace the valve body, but then changed their minds, saying Ford told them to just change the fluid. I took...

Paint

I have a black car. The paint is not metallic. Unfortunately, it shows every speck of dirt, but I knew that going into it. How, though, can I get rid of small scratches and scrapes that are also very visible?

And does anyone else have a problem with water spots getting "etched" into the clearcoat?

Oil Change at Dealer

So I got my oil changed and tires rotated at the local dealer. They actually did it in about 45 minutes. But at the end, they recommended a tune up, fuel filter replacement, and fuel system cleaning. I have 80,500 miles on my car. I have followed the Ford recommended maintenance since I bought it. A...

Trans Service

So I took the car in for a trans fluid change. (It was done first around 37K or 38K miles -- they said they needed to change the valve body, but then decided to change just the fluid.) My local dealer changed the fluid Friday in about 3 hours. They said it required some sort of synthetic fluid; I to...

Re: Ford 500 a/c

I hear pops and clunks. The other day, with it 100 degrees outside, I get in the car to go home, it's blowing as hard as it can through the defroster vents on top of the dash! I turned the a/c off, waited a couple of seconds, and turned it back on -- been working fine ever since. But the driver side...

Exterior Mirrors

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do about water in the outside mirror housings? After washing the car, I have tried sucking the water out with a vacuum and I've tried stuffing a towel in there around the mirror to try to soak it up, but no matter what, there's always a lot left in there. Then,...

Paid Off!

Paid off my Five Hundred Limited yesterday! Could've done so sooner, but why bother? Ford gave me 60 months to pay with 0% interest -- even with the abysmal rates banks are offering on savings these days, it made more sense to leave the money there than send it all to Ford at once. The 2011 Chrysler...

Re: Battery Replacement

Only got 3 years and 47,000 miles out of mine. I bought whatever they had on sale at O'Reilly or Autozone or whatever it was. Few more CCAs, and it's been fine for almost 2 years and 23,000 miles. Original just died on me one summer afternoon in 2009.

Re: Transmission slams into gear after delay

Could be the engine mount; could be the throttle body. I had both replaced last week, and now the car runs (almost) like new, and it has 71,000 miles. Now if they could just figure out the pesky Check Engine light. Which, by the way, was NOT on when I dropped it off to have the work done.

Re: Engine mount shot

Mine was replaced by the local Ford dealer under my extended warranty (which, unfortunately, runs out at 75,000 miles -- 4,000 miles from now). I don't know what it cost; the invoice says "EXTD WARR COV." Says the same for the throttle body replacement and washer fluid reservoir replacement.

Re: Low Washer Fluid

OK, so the car is at the Ford dealer. The low washer fluid thing was a bad float. My extended warranty will cover that. The transmission roll resister thing, engine mount on top, whatever it's called, they agreed it's shot. The extended warranty will cover that. And the sometimes-abrupt shifting the...

Low Washer Fluid

Message center came up with Low Washer Fluid warning. Filled reservoir with a gallon of washer fluid, message is still there. I have to clear it every time I start the car. What's up with that?

Re: Has anyone ever had their valve body replaced?

No, but they almost replaced it under warranty. They were going to order the part, but then they decided to just change the fluid. They said that's what Ford told them to do.

Cupholder Mats

I think this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the answer. I have a 2006 Five Hundred. It came with little rubber mats in the cupholders and in the door pulls. I have somehow managed to lose one of the two that goes in the front cupholders. Where can I get a replacement?

Paint Issue

I have 2006 Five Hundred Limited in black. As you may know, the black paint Ford used on these cars in 2006 was not a metallic (which, in my opinion, helps to hide swirls and minor defects). My problem is the hood and front bumper. I have some minor rock chips, which really isn't unexpected 4.5 year...
