A recent Strategic Vision Inc. survey of car owner satisfaction ranks the Ford Five Hundred in a tie for first with the Nissan Maxima in the large car category ("Total Quality Index").

Quote:
More than 40,793 buyers who bought 2005 models in October and November of 2004 supplied data. “We gather comprehensive data that reflects the breadth and depth of the ownership experience, including emotions. The information is used to calculate ‘Total Quality’ indices. These integrated relationships between attributes and emotions mirror how people respond to their new vehicle. Those product and performance characteristics that deliver more desired emotions more strongly impact the perception of Total Quality,” opines Dr. Edwards.

“As the number of new vehicles and segments continues to grow, understanding the emotional needs of buyers in each segment will be critical,” continues Dr. Edwards. “Successful companies will be able to deliver products generating such positive emotional experiences that they delight their customer. That builds loyalty with significant monetary implications.”

How can you separate the 500/Montego? They are the same vehicle except for badging, grille, taillights, headlights and the way their optional equipment is packaged with each trim level. I have answered alot of survey's under the Ford 500 name.

My question is why doesn't Ford or these other people ask about the Montego?

Actually, this story was a link from Autoweak:

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102384

Check out the GM news.

Ernie, the link I provided is to the web site for the company that did the survey (Strategic Vision Inc.). Auto week is covering Strategic Vision Inc.'s press release.

You have to navigate from the "Press" drop-down menu on the company's home page to the "Automotive" page for the summary of the results, and if you click on the vehicle category (e.g. "Large Cars" for the Five Hundred) you get the scores for all vehicles in the class. The Ford Five Hundred got 886 points.

It's interesting that the Five Hundred beat out the Chrysler 300 (so called "Car of the Year" by the know-nothing auto journalists at Car and Driver) by 3 points. And there in 4th place is the Montego (7 points back)

Other notables include the La Crosse at 874 points. The segment average score was 868.

Thanks. I know all that, but was trying to point out the info that Autoweak highlighted concerning the overall ratings of GM and Nissan. You didn't mention that when you posted your link, Leap. I was filling in the blanks for you.

If a couple more Montego owners had voted, it would have been a sweep. Combine 'em, and it's still 2 out of the top 4. Pretty darn good.

Didn't vote on this. Too many disappointments to give the Five Hundred a positive rating. This is the only time that after trading I miss the old car. Hopefully it will get straightened out eventually. LTD AWD. :(

Sorry to hear that. What disappointments do you have?

Biggest is poor gas mileage...averaging barely 20 mpg after 3300 miles. Have to trickle the last 4 gallons in the tank when fueling up. This showed up after the first half dozen gas ups. Also affects the fuel gauge and the miles to empty reading. From day one the gallons used dash readout has been 1.5 gallons off. Dealer says there is a fueling problem with other 05' Ford cars and 05' gas pickups. Motor surges first thing in the morning until it warms up...nothing to worry about. AM side of the radio is scratchy when it is first turned on...I'll live with it. Heated seats heat about half as much as any other vehicle I've ever owned...and then shut off after 10 minutes. I want to like this car...wanted AWD and the system worked seamlessly in 8 inches of wet, heavy snow last week. It drives and handles well and the engine has plenty of power for anything I've come up against. The dealer said to bring it in on the fueling issue...they get that corrected and the mileage gets to 25 mpg and the rest I'll chalk up to first year model gremlins.

That would be very frustrating, to say the least. Still, I haven't seen mention of widespread fueling problems on these cars. I honestly think that, if it were my car, I'd get a second opinion from another dealer. I know my car never got mileage anything like that. If it did, I, too, would be upset...

Understanably. But also, as with "hybrids" Weather, geogrphic location, actual driving style effect your overall mileage. As far as fuel problems, I can't report on that just yet, I've still to go for a fuel stop, it's only been 5 days since i got her.
