Well come on folks with the AWD 500's and Taurus's, how did it do in our East coast snow storm.

Here is my experience... IT IS FUN to be able to pull out of your driveway which inclines at 15 degrees and with 15" of fresh snow the car plows the driveway for you. I love this car.
Now I do have new tires, the Yoko Avids TRZ, but I do not like them as well as the old OEM P6's, but never the less, the car did not lose control or spin a lot. It just went on down the road. Now my neighbor who has a Q56 infinity, could not make it to the top of her driveway, I will admit it does have a slightly steeper slope than mine so that could be it.

Anyway, was impressed.

Brad

Back in January 2009 I drove my 2007 Montego AWD about 250 miles across Wisconsin and Minnesota in a snow storm with good results. It's not mountainous, but there are rolling hills. And there was lots of hardware in the ditch. Of course (Ahem!) driving skill plays a part in this as well.

I bet there were a lot of 4 x 4's and AWD's. There is a mistaken belief that strapping one of those to your backside also places a big red "S" on your chest.

While they may go better they don't stop any better.

Daybreak Dec 24, and Faribault MN has eight inches of new snow on top of the remnant from two weeks ago. Forecast is for it to continue for another 18 to 24 hours.

Both of mine are just FWD. However.... they are both excellent winter cars. Sure footed in snow and ice. Very easy cars to drive in bad weather. The ABS and traction control make it even better - and the AdvanceTrac on my Taurus is really cool. I turned a corner too fast the other day, in the middle of a snowstorm, and the ass end started to skid - the AdvanceTrac totally put a halt to that skid. I was impressed. The AWD cars must really be awesome!

I have found my 2007 AWD 500's limit. At 29" of snow, it will not go! I made it about 8 feet before it got on top of the snow and then dug in. Just playing to see if it would. It will do 15" of snow.... did that already and I was impressed. We had 29" of snow (compressed) on the ground here in Charles Town, WV as of Feb 7th, 2010. I measured 33" fallen by doing multiple measurements on my back deck as it came down. I would sweep away every 5 to 7" fallen and then let it accumalate again before I measured.

They are calling for an additional 8 to 10" Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon (Feb.9/10 2010). So much fun!!! NOT. This is the most snow fall I have seen in a long time and I have been on this planet 50 years plus.

It was a beautiful storm and I enjoyed every minute of it until I had to dig out.

Thirty inches here in SE PA. and another foot on the way Wednesday.
