Hello Everyone. Mike Bakaletz from Hillsborough, NJ. I've had my 2006 500 for about a month now and am very pleased. SEL FWD; Auto 6-speed; Oxford White Clearcoat; Beige Leather interior; power moonroof; 215/60R17 Continentals. Changed the oil for the first time (1400 mi.) yesterday.

Couple of questions:
1. Has anyone purchased the shop/service manual for their 500?
2. Has anyone found that 5W-20 is not prevalent? Yet?

Look foward to participating in the forums.

Welcome Mike!

I would buy a shop manual if I knew who or where they were available from.

5W-20 oil..........If I had an older car, maybe 25 years or older, then I would have concerns on engine oil. Mine is changed religiously. I have had no failures, heavy oil usage, smoke, gasket or seal leaks or problems from any of my new Ford vehicles that I have owned since 1988. I have owned a 1988 Ranger PU, 1997 T-bird, 1998 Sable, 1999 Sable, 2001 F150 and a 2005 Montego with 67,000 miles on it. Well over 500,000 miles on the combined vehicles. All vehicles had over 100,000 miles on them except for the T-bird and the 98 Sable because they were totaled in accidents. As you can see I still have a few of these vehicles and they are still being driven. I work on the old stuff....my stock 1951 Ford F3 Pickup..... and let the dealer work on the new stuff.

My preferred FLAPS* is Advance Auto Parts because they carry Purolator filters, which is what I use on my Isuzu. They stock the Motorcraft FL-820S filters used in the Five Hundred, and Motorcraft 5W-20 semi synthetic oil. Walmart is another source for these as well, though the price wasn't much less than Advance, and I like to buy from Advance to ward off the slight twinge of guilt I'd feel for disposing of my used oil there if I didn't buy anything.

I was able to find 5w-20 at a NAPA store. Welcome to the group!

I'm lucky in that I have a Farm & Fleet reasonably nearby and can get oil/filters/maintenance items reasonably from them - and they seem to carry almost every brand/flavor of almost anything from a parts standpoint.

Here's something weird - the FL820S oil filters are exactly the same as the ones used in the 1998 Mustang Cobra. I know - I used to own one.
1998 Bright Atlantic Blue coupe - sold it a few months ago. Only had 9,000 original miles on it and I bought it two years prior with just under 8,000 miles on it.

But I had my eye on a 1966 Nightmist Blue Mustang coupe. :)
