Hi all,

I just bought a 2008 White Taurus Limited. Car has 22K miles. My previous car was a 2009 Impala which was my company car. Switched jobs so went from a company car to car allowance.

So far I really like the Taurus. Just getting used to the size over the Impala. Car has many nice features, rides great, and is super comfortable.

I live in Chicago suburbs. Just driving up my driveway with less than a dusting of snow the tires seemed to fight for their lives to get traction. The car has the OEM 225 55 18 Pirellis which get terrible reviews on tire forums. My Impala was great in the snow.

Have you snow guys dealt with these tires or changed to dedicated snows or better all seasons???

Thanks.

The OEM Pirelli's are marginal at best - but with 22k miles on the odometer, the tires are pretty worthless in the winter - and I'm also guessing you have FWD only, which makes them worse. With my Montego with AWD, even when new the Pirelli's were just "OK" in the snow - and for the second winter I went with a set of dedicated snows on separate wheels and it's been great. ON the Freestyle (with the same Pirelli's) I've always done winter tires (wife's car driving to a rural teaching job in the hills), but switched the Pirelli's to a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4's and those tires are something I would considere going thru the winter with if I needed to - much better overall tire.

If you like the P6's in normal driving, then I'd opt for a set of winter wheels and tires - it'll make the 18" alloys last longer overall...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do have FWD. Looks like I'll be buying a set of dedicated snows. There are many options in the 18" size so I may go down to 17" for the dedicated snows.

I bought a set of Dunlop Signature all-season P215/60R17 tires for my 2008 Taurus SEL. I've only had them for 7,000 miles, but they are nice and quiet and seem to be good in the snow.

I would buy them again. Reasonable price at $600 out the door.
