hello every one received letter from Ford to Update Navigation system to optimize performace of navi system for ONLY $199.00. I have some questions if all wish to reply.

#1 Paid enough for system any way to download this info via computer?

#2 Have 2008 black on black limited awd Loaded is this every few years ford is going to do this. System costs $2500.00 plus Respectfully leoleo

This sounds off, there is no way to optimize the system as the software is hard coded into the system. In fact, Ford no longer is working on any advancements to this version as the new hard drive based system is whats taking off, hence Pioneer - the maker of the older units has stopped making them and supporting them for Ford.

The only optimization I can see the dealer doing is disabling some of the enabled options that might not be used - like reverse sense, cd player, sirius etc... but I doubt that will make any significant differences.

leoleo, the dealer is trying to sell you an updated map DVD. The updated map DVD Version 8P will include all new roads, POIs and current addresses etc. NAVTEQ® digital map data drives most of the in-vehicle navigation systems sold in the U.S. and Europe. You can order a new DVD directly from NAVTEQ.

$199 is for the navtaq cd . I have a 2008 Taurus LTD with a sync Navigation unit which I would love to change for the 2010 unit I know it’s an expensive job but does any one have any idea as to purchasing a new 2010 unit and accessories’
