I've owned my 2005 Ford Taurus SE since January 2005 and I haven't changed the battery yet. The car has 37k miles. While repairing the front/rear brakes, the local NTB performed a midtronics battery test on my car. The NTB salesman said that the battery is bad and it needs to be replaced soon. The midtronics test results were battery volts - 12.71, measured-445CCA and rating-540CCA.
Are these battery test results really bad or is the salesman just trying to sell me a battery? I haven't noticed any problems starting my car.

445 CCA is still enough to start the car, but with winter approaching, theres no promise that it will make it through. Your Taurus has low miles, thats good, but I would imagine with the low miles, most of the trips are stop and go.

Perhaps you should visit your local auto parts store and get a second opinion. Auto Zone, Advance Auto and Oreilly Auto parts all test for free.

Getting 4-5 years on a factory OEM battery is pretty good. Just had ours replaced because it had been tested and was on the weak side of life.

I'm not quite sure how that Midtronics tester works... Nothing like the good old VAT tester to really stress the battery.

Load is 3x's the amp hour rate for thirty seconds. If the reading stays above 9.6 volts you are good to go.

I usually get five years out of a battery.
